Brussels in 3 Days: The Perfect Itinerary
Got a trip to the Belgian capital in the works? Brussels is a city of delightful contrasts: stately and Gothic on one corner, irreverent and surreal on the next. If you're lucky enough to have 72 hours, plus your arrival day, you'll have time to savor everything from moules-frites to the medieval gems of the surrounding region, many of them UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
We've put together an optimized itinerary so you don't miss a thing, making the most of every minute of your trip.
Arrival Day
The first day is usually a transition between the airport, the hotel, and your first steps around the city. So we've planned something relaxed to ease you in. The easiest way to get from the airport to your hotel is to book a comfortable Brussels transfer service in advance.
Once you've dropped off your bags, head straight to the heart of the city: the Grand Place. Seeing it for the first time, with its illuminated guild halls, is a memory that stays with you forever. Afterwards, grab your first Belgian waffle and stroll toward the Manneken Pis. For dinner, find one of the traditional taverns tucked away in the nearby streets and raise a glass of craft beer to the trip ahead.
Day 1
Your first full day should focus on what makes Brussels truly unique: its ability to blend historical grandeur with the playful spirit of the ninth art.
Start the morning back at the Grand Place, where you can take in the golden details and the imposing spire of the Town Hall in full daylight. To unlock every secret of these facades and get the historical context you need for the rest of the trip, we recommend starting with the Brussels free walking tour.

Just a short walk away, you'll find the city's most famous (and smallest) citizen: the Manneken Pis. After saying hello, wander into the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert, where luxury and the scent of cocoa mingle beneath an impressive glass dome. A paradise for chocolate lovers!
For the afternoon, we have something a little different in mind. Brussels is the capital of beer, and it's worth having a guide take you around to learn the ins and outs of Belgian beer. The Belgian beer tour is a great way to discover some of the best bars in the city and learn which types of beer you like best. If you still have energy, end the day watching the sunset from the Palace of Justice... the views from its square are unbeatable.
Day 2
Brussels sits in a privileged position at the heart of Europe, and it would be a shame not to use this second day to explore the gems of Flanders.
If there's a place that looks like it was lifted straight from a Jan van Eyck painting, it's Bruges. Strolling along its canals and crossing the Lake of Love is a magical experience. But why choose when you can have it all? The Bruges and Ghent day trip lets you take in the canals of the former and the grandeur of the Castle of the Counts of Flanders in the latter... all in a single day.
Back in Brussels, there's nothing better than diving into the local food culture. Round off the evening with a Belgian dinner at Bouillon Bruxelles.
Day 3
On your last day, it's time to explore the city's more modern and symbolic side.
Head north by metro to visit the Atomium, the symbol of the 1958 World's Fair. Its steel spheres are not only a visual icon but also offer one of the best panoramic views of northern Brussels. Right next door, you can tour all of Europe in a morning at Mini-Europe, an ideal option if you're travelling with children. You can book your Mini-Europe tickets here.

Back in the center, spend some time in the European Quarter, where the continent's future is being shaped. Seeing the European Parliament and the Cinquantenaire Park will give you a sense of Brussels' institutional and stately side. There's also a European Quarter free tour available to explore every corner in depth.
Before you leave, make sure you tick off the 3 pillars of the Belgian diet: moules-frites, chocolate, and waffles. If you want to take the secret home and impress your friends, a Belgian chocolate workshop is the perfect way to say goodbye to the city with the sweetest taste in your mouth.
